(AP) -- New Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery promises to bring an up-tempo style of play that he says will fill seats at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa athletic director Gary Barta introduced McCaffery as head coach of the men's basketball team Monday. He comes to Iowa after five seasons at Siena, where his team went 112-51 in five seasons and made three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

McCaffery says he received interest from Seton Hall and St. John's but decided Iowa was the best fit.

McCaffery says he's inheriting a young but talented team. He replaces Todd Lickliter, who was fired in mid-March after three years as coach.

Barta says McCaffery will be offered a six-year deal that will pay about $1.1 million in the first year, plus bonuses.
