LONDON (AP) -- The president of the World Anti-Doping Agency says Mark McGwire's admission of steroid use should encourage the sport to get tougher on drug cheats.

WADA president John Fahey says that despite "incremental progress" baseball's anti-doping program still falls short of the "universally accepted standards" of the international code on doping.

After years of denying he took performance-enhancing drugs, McGwire said Monday he used steroids while he was playing.

Former international baseball federation president Harvey Schiller says the admission shouldn't affect the sport's desire to rejoin the Olympics. He says the "singular thing" for baseball is to have major league players compete.
