(AP) -- A federal grand jury in Louisville has
brought a new charge against the woman accused of trying to extort
milllions from Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino.
The grand jury charged Karen Cunagin Sypher with
retaliation against a witness for filing a criminal complaint after
she was indicted in May that claimed Pitino had raped her. The FBI
and prosecutors have said there was no basis for that allegation.
In the earlier case, Pitino reported the alleged extortion
attempt to the FBI.
Sypher has pleaded not guilty to charges of extortion and lying
to the FBI.
The coach subsequently told police that he had a consensual
sexual encounter with Sypher in 2003. A message seeking comment was
left with her attorney Wednesday.
