Kirksville, MO  – An all-around effort from junior guard Laura Joya and a game-high 19 points from senior forward Georgia Mueller helped lead the Truman women’s basketball team to its second consecutive non-conference win – a 66-61 victory against William Woods (Mo.) on Saturday in Kirksville.Joya finished with 11 points, seven assists, six steals and five rebounds for the Bulldogs (2-3), who open up MIAA play Wednesday night at home against Missouri Southern.

Truman fell behind by six early, but quickly regained a lead that it wouldn’t relinquish. The Bulldogs, tied at 15 midway through the first half with the visiting Owls (5-2), rattled off a 9-2 run to jump ahead by seven with seven minutes to play in the opening frame. From there, the Bulldogs never fell behind again, leading by as many as 13 in the second half.

Mueller’s 19 marked a game high, as she went 8-of-11 from the field and drained a pair of free throws to go along with four rebounds. Freshman Breanna Daniels logged 12 points in 29 minutes and joined senior center Sarah Gordon with a team-high six rebounds. Gordon got five of her six rebounds off the offensive glass, as Truman outrebounded William Woods 41-26 (18-7 offensive) for the game. Each team shot 43% for the game, but the Bulldogs used its edge on the offensive glass to finish with 12 more field goal attempts. Eshell Estrella and Cameo Holly each led WWU with 13 points apiece.Truman will tipoff with Missouri Southern at 5:30 p.m. in Pershing Arena on Wednesday night (Dec. 3).
