(AP) -- Eastern Illinois basketball coach Jay Spoonhour has named Bob Sundvold as the first assistant coach on his staff.
The hiring is a reversal of roles for Spoonhour and Sundvold. Spoonhour was a graduate assistant for Sundvold's Central Missouri State teams in 1995 and 1996.
Sundvold was also head coach at University of Missouri-Kansas City for four seasons.
Sundvold started his college coaching career as an assistant at Missouri to head coach Norm Stewart.
During that time, the Tigers made nine NCAA Tournament appearances and earned six Big Eight Conference championships.
Sundvold also had assistant coaching stops at Missouri State, Iowa State and at Toledo.
Earlier this month, Eastern Illinois picked Spoonhour to replace Mike Miller, who was fired after a 12-17 season.
