(AP) -- Big crowds of people are showing up to say goodbye to Stan Musial.

Fans, many wearing Cardinal-red jackets, lined up in the bitter cold Thursday for the visitation at the Cathedral Basilica, an ornate Roman Catholic cathedral in midtown St. Louis. Police helped direct traffic.

The 24-time All-Star died Saturday at age 92. Inside, some said they respected Musial as much for his gentle nature and approachability as his baseball prowess.

That's saying something because Musial was one of the all-time greats, a lifetime .331 hitter and three-time MVP.

A private funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a procession to Busch Stadium, where the family will lay a wreath at
the Musial statue.
