TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - - Mike Carlson and Seth Jackson each scored 13 points, but the Northeastern State offense hit too many shots in a 72-56 RiverHawk victory against the Truman men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

The ‘Hawks (16-6, 9-5 MIAA) shot 54% for the game, including a 10-for-20  effort from downtown to keep the Bulldogs (7-14, 4-9 MIAA) at bay in the final game of a long weekend road trip for the purple and white.

Truman hung around for most of the contest, rallying back from a 13-point deficit in the first half to trail by just three with 2:36 to play in the opening frame.

After NSU carried a seven-point lead into the break, the squads played within a 5-9 point margin for the first 10 minutes of the second half before the ’Hawks went on a quick 14-4 run to open up an 18-point lead with just less than six minutes to go.

After battling foul trouble for much of the first half, Carlson (Superior, Wis.) scored all 13 of his points in the final 20 minutes, while Jackson (St. Louis, Mo.) balanced his (seven/six) between the two frames. Cole Myers (Ankeny, Iowa) added seven points off the bench, while Tom Norton (Bloomington, Ill.) and Isaac Gardner (Washington, Iowa) each hit a pair of treys for six points apiece.

For the game, the Bulldogs shot 37% overall, including a 27% mark from three-point distance.

Bryton Hobbs scored 28 points for the ’Hawks to lead all scorers, while Jermaine Bransford added a 14-point, 10- rebound double-double.

The Bulldogs will return to Pershing Arena this Thursday (Feb. 14) night, looking to snap a four-game losing streak when Southwest Baptist visits Kirksville.

The two squads played to a 76-73 SBU victory on Feb. 2 in Bolivar.
