The seventh-seeded Truman volleyball team saw its 2012 season come to a close on Thursday afternoon, as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 (-20, -13, -20) decision to the No. 2 seeded Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on the campus of Concordia-St. Paul.

Senior Megan Sharpe led the Bulldogs in her final collegiate match, putting down a team-high nine kills, serving two aces and adding four block assists for a team-high 13 points, while both sophomore Allie Brak and freshman Abby Heise chipped in seven kills apiece.

Despite the Bulldogs out-blocking SMSU by a 10-5 margin, the second-seeded and No. 2 overall Mustangs hit at a .273 clip and held Truman to just an .097 mark.

Sophomore Meghan Zimmerman led the ’Dogs with 24 assists and added six digs with two aces, while fellow sophomore libero Abby Moser paced the purple and white with eight digs. Senior Emily Briseno’s six block assists also marked a team-high.

SMSU was led by Mary Groth’s 11 kills and ten from Brooke Burmeister.

The Bulldogs graduate four seniors from the 2012 squad, including Sharpe, Briseno, Allyson Stellmach and Heather Hargadine.

Truman will return four starters plus its libero for the 2013 season.

Final notes for the 2012 season will be posted in December on the TrumanBulldogs.com website.
