Iowa is fourth Missouri eigth in the NCAA wrestling championships

(AP) -- Two-time defending champion Penn State took a 3-1/2 point lead Thursday in the opening sessions of the NCAA wrestling championships.


The Nittany Lions went 6 for 6 in the second round and lead the meet with 32.5 points.

Oklahoma State was second with 29 points and seven quarterfinalists.


Minnesota was third with 24 points, followed by Iowa with 22.


Cornell's Kyle Dake and Penn State's David Taylor stayed on course for a showdown Saturday night in the 165-pound final by cruising through to the quarterfinals.

Missouri and Iowa have each advanced eight indivisuals into Fridays matches.

In the Team Standings Iowa is fourth Missouri eigth.


All the top seeds earned spots in the quarterfinals, which are set for Friday along with the semifinals.
