KIRKSVILLE, MO. --

When the Kirksville Arts Association finally found a building to call home in Kirksville, they begin to beautify the outside.

When you walk by the Kirksville Arts Center you will no longer see green tile, but now a beautiful legacy mural with tiles created by members of the Kirksville community.

A board member said they have made 600 tiles with each Kirksville Public School.

Thursday, until 6 p.m. you can create a tile to go on the mural.

There will be more than 3,000 tiles in the entire project, and it will wrap around from the front of the building on Franklin Street to around the corner.

Board member Sue Ross said seeing her vision come to life has been exciting!

“It’s very thrilling, especially this morning when our main room was actually full of people; adults, children, toddlers all making a tile,” Ross said. “Tiles last forever. When clay is fired it will last forever. Mosaics are thousands of years old … all over the world. So, we feel like we have something that’s going to be lasting.”

The Travis Freeman foundation is assisting the art center in the project.

The center also need help assembling the tile.

You can help by contacting the Kirksville Arts Association, or you can just drop by.

There will be something to do all through next week.
