KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- St. Patricks Day is still about a month away, but a Heartland woman's luck came a little early this year.
38-year-old Mandy West, of Green Castle scratched her way to a $100,000 prize on a Crossword Doubler Scratchers ticket. West bought her winning ticket at Shop 'N Go in Kirksville.
We got a chance to sit down and talk with Mandy, and she tells us the win came at the perfect time.
"I'm going to take care of my aunt and uncle who have helped me out for the last 4 months. Me and my husband have done with out a lot. We haven't had lights or water for four months and we're buying the house we live in and do some repairs with that and just everyday things we need to take care of," West said.
Mandy says she just wants to take care of her family the best way she can.
She tells us it took her 2 to 3 days to scratch and complete the crossword puzzle.
When she noticed the win she asked her coworkers to double, and even triple check to make sure the $100,000 cash prize was indeed real.
She uncovered the first of five top prizes offered in the $5 scratchers ticket.
