(AP) -- Elliott Johnson brought four gloves to Kansas City Royals spring training camp on Thursday, the first official reporting day for position players.

Johnson spent 11 years in the Tampa Bay organization before being acquired in a trade Tuesday.

Johnson, a switch-hitter, batted .242 with six home runs, 10 doubles, 33 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 24 attempts last season.

He started 68 games at shortstop and has played every infield position except catcher and the outfield in his career.

Johnson, who has a 42-inch vertical leap and was a star high school basketball player, will compete for a utility role with the Royals.
