BOLIVAR, Mo. – A 14-0 run spanning four plus minutes lifted the 22nd ranked Truman Women’s Basketball team to fourth straight win and ninth in their last ten in a 64-50 victory over Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University Bearcats on Saturday afternoon.

The win clinched the Bulldogs spot in the MIAA postseason basketball tournament with a month to play in the regular season.

Freshman Courtney Strait keyed the run with a pair of three-pointers that took the Bulldog advantage from 10-9 to 24-9 midway through the first half.

The Bearcats (9-10; 4-7 MIAA) could only get as close as eight during the duration of the game as the Bulldogs (16-3; 9-2 MIAA) scored their final eight points from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs found their shooting touch from outside again as they made seven of 14 attempts with Allie Norton connecting on three of four tries to go with Strait’s pair.

Truman also turned the ball over just nine times compared to the Bearcats 14.

Norton led the team with 15 points while Becka McHenry tallied 14 with nine coming from the charity stripe.

The two guards each had six rebounds while Norton added five assists.

Jacqui Zelenka paced the Bearcats with a double-double going for 15 points and 11 rebounds.

SBU managed just three triples on 18 attempts.

The win was the fifth straight by the Bulldogs over Southwest Baptist with the return match in Kirksville on February 14th.

Truman will continue the three-game road swing next Thursday night against Pittsburg (Kan.) State at 5:30 p.m.
