Call to child services hotline leads to abuse charge

UNIONVILLE, MO. -- A Putnam County woman is behind bars charged with two counts of child abuse.

Christy Wade, 36, of Unionville, Mo., is charged with two felony counts of abuse of a child. She is being held in the Davies-Dekalb Regional Jail under $15,000 bond.

According to court papers, Unionville police began their investigation following a hotline call to Missouri Child Services.

Wade is accused of striking both children, ages nine and eleven, knocking one into a wall. Investigators say they found the home in disarray. There was trash on the floor and paths had been made thru the debris to various areas of the apartment.

Wade told authorities she had "lost it" and had been overwhelmed at the time of the incident. Her first court date is set for February 8.
