MARSHALL, Mo. – Alex and Ryan Maus each battled their way to second place finishes and Helmut Rentschler finished sixth at the Missouri Valley College Open on Saturday as the team wrapped up a busy week on the mats.

Alex started the day with a pin over Tyler Klinkhammer then defeated Nathan Manfull 9-3 to reach the semifinals of the 141-pound bracket.

Maus defeated Joel Olivas 2-1 to reach the finals but lost a 3-2 decision to Central Missouri’s Eric Mateo in the title bout.

Ryan was seeded second at 149 and used a 5-0 decision over Hunter Muskratt and a 12-2 major over Joe Hunter.

In the semis, Maus won 2-0 over Nick Haugen but lost 5-2 to the University of Missouri’s John Hagerty.

Rentschler was the third Bulldog to place after he lost his opening round match 7-2 in the 197-weight class.

Rentschler took a tech fall win and a pin but dropped a 3-0 decision in the consolation semifinals.

He would rematch with Central Missouri’s Todd Brier in the fifth place match but Brier would win his second straight over the Bulldog sophomore by pin at the 6:42 mark.

Colton Schmitz won his first two matches at 157 but lost 5-2 in the quarterfinals and saw his tournament come to an end with a 3-2 decision in his next match.
