Drake stops Rice in the DIRECTV Classic

(AP) -- Jordan Clarke set a tournament record with 18 rebounds and was one of five double-figure scorers with 15 points for Drake in a 77-66 victory over Rice in the sixth annual DIRECTV Classic on Friday night.


Drake (2-2) also held a 35-25 rebounding advantage.


The Bulldogs were led by Ben Simons' 18 points. Seth VanDest scored 12 points, Chris Hines scored 11 and Gary Ricks Jr. had 10.


Simons connected on four 3-point shots and Hines hit three from long range.


Rice (1-4) got 25 points from Tamir Jackson, including three 3-pointers, and 12 points from Julian DeBose.
