OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A lot of people are excited for more than just the Thanksgiving turkey and all of its delicious sides; many can’t wait to shop the Black Friday sales.

And now after you feast on your turkey, you can hit some stores that are opening their doors on Thanksgiving instead of the usual Black Friday.

This is the busiest time of the year for stores, especially big retail stores.

And employees are preparing themselves for the rush that is to be expected.

“It’s one of our biggest things you know.  So Black Friday is a huge deal for Target, huge for sales and shopping any place, gets the guests really excited and gets them in the store. They love it and we're just ready to go with it,” said Zach Kern, Target employee.

It was reported that $52.4 billion was spent by consumers last year during the Black Friday weekend.

So if you plan on hitting the sales, you may want to pack a blanket and maybe some snacks for what may be some longer than usual lines.

And who knows, maybe there will be such a thing as Black Wednesday in the near future.
