A pair of top 10 finishes by Karen and Cindy Grauel lifted the Truman Women’s Cross Country team to a third place showing at the 50th annual Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell (Iowa) College.
The Men were led by Brad Hart and finished in ninth.
The women accumulated 85 points, three behind host Grinnell while Wartburg (Iowa) ran away with the team title with 49 points. Karen Grauel clocked a six kilometer time of 22:57, which was good for fifth overall. Alana Enabnit, of Wartburg, won the individual title with a time of 21:29.
Cindy Grauel came in ninth at 23:27, Katie Hirsch was 12th at 23:33. Other women’s competitors were Abby Palm (28th-24:45), Hannah Farnsworth (31st-24:47), Miranda Biddle (41st-25:19) and Taylor Schulz (53rd-26:02).
Hart came in 22nd position to pace the men’s squad with a time of 26:43 on the eight kilometer course. Andrew Sheets trailed Hart by 12 seconds but was in a large group to finish 31st overall. Chad Petrofsky was also among that group as he finished in 37th place with a time of 27:09.
Other men’s finishers at Grinnell were Patrick Fink (54th-28:00), Eric Volstromer (66th-29:21), Christopher Floyd (76th-30:03) and Kyle Swetlishnoff (88th-31:54).
The men scored 210 points to finish in eighth place overall. Central (Iowa) College had five runners in the top 12 to take home team honors with 36 points.
The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday, September 21st at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana (Ill.) College in Rock Island, Ill.
