Senior Devon Myers from the Truman State University Baseball team became the second CaptialOne Academic All-America this season and Division II leading 98th all-time for Truman State University with his second team selection on Thursday.
After earning first-team all-district honors earlier in May, Myers (Fenton, Mo., Rockwood Summit HS) garnered second team Academic All-America accolades with his 3.68 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science.
He joins Central Missouri’s Bret Schwartz as the only members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association named to the Academic All-America team.
Myers was named to the honorable mention all-MIAA team after finishing his senior season with a .283 batting average, seven doubles, a triple and a team leading four home runs and 20 runs batted in.
He was second in the MIAA in pickoffs with eight, was tied for second among league catchers with 17 putouts on steal attempts and had the seventh best fielding percentage in the league at .994.
He is a three-time captain of the Bulldog Baseball team and has helped the Bulldogs win the second most game over a four-year period with 56, three away from the four-year mark of 59 set between 1999-2002.
The 33 wins over the past two seasons in the best in the program’s history.
Myers finished as Truman’s career hit king with 197, breaking the previous mark of 191 held by Patrick Hardin from 2002-05.
He finished in the top 15 in career batting averages with a .310 mark, second in at bats with 635, second in doubles with 28, second in RBIs with 111 and in the top 10 in runs scored, triples, home runs and total bases.
He joins Randy Beilsmith (2006), Dan Faucett (1978, 1979), Randy Mikel (1983) and Aaron Royster (1994) as Bulldog Baseball players to earn the Academic All-America distinction.
Women’s soccer standout Megan Buri was Truman’s other Academic All-America honoree this past season.
The Bulldogs have a total of 98 Academic All-Americans since the program’s inception in 1952.
Truman is 24th all-time, all divisions in producing Academic All-Americans and tops in Division II.
The program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
