The Truman wrestling team had six athletes compete at the UNO Open on Saturday afternoon, with both Rolland Wimberley and Colton Schmitz, a pair of freshmen, picking up a win apiece.
Wimberley (Wrangell, Alas.; Wrangell) dropped his opener before bouncing back with a fall against Nick Coffman in 2:08. Wimberley then was beat by Kenny Anderson in the third round of wrestlebacks at the 125-pound level.
Schmitz (Kirksville, Mo.; Kirksville) won his first-round match against Matt Brock with a fall at 4:51 before beating defeated by Robert Fisher, 10-5, in the 141-pound round of 16. Schmitz then faced Cameron Jesseph in the second-round of wrestlebacks but was defeated, 3-1.
Alex Maus (149, amateur), Dean Schultz (174, elite), Chad Kurovski (184, amateur) and Max Muench (197, amateur) also competed at the event but went 0-2.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sat., Dec. 5 at the Simpson Invitational in Indianola, Iowa.
