The Truman wrestling team had three fourth place finishes as the season opening Loras College Open on Saturday. They were heavyweight Loyde Braidlow, 184-Chad Kurvoski and 157-Andy Bader.
Braidlow won his first two matches before dropping into the wrestlebacks with a loss. He won by default to get to the third place match but fell 14-5.
Kurvoski won his first match of the season by pinfall but lost his next bout. Kurvoski lost in the third place match 16-5.
Bader started out winning his first three matches with the second coming by pinfall. He lost 3-1 in the quarterfinals and then was defeated 9-7 in overtime in the third place match.
Two other Bulldogs, Dean Schultz and Alex Maus competed in the open as well. Both went 1-2 on the day.
The Bulldogs will compete next Saturday at the Knox College Open in Galesburg, Ill.
In the Silver Division, four of the five Bulldogs that participated placed with two seconds, a third and a fourth. Ryan Banning at 133 won his first match by fall and advanced to the finals with a 4-2 victory. He lost by tech fall in the championship bout.
Colton Schmitz at 141 also won his first three matches of the tournament and advanced to the finals with a pin fall victory. Schmitz was defeated 4-2 in the finals.
Zach Hayes finished third in the 184-pound weight class with a 3-1 record while Rolland Wimberly placed fourth with a 2-2 showing.
