TSU volleyball falls to Central Missouri

The No. 19 Truman volleyball squad hit just .076 and committed eight service errors against 6th-ranked Central Missouri on Wednesday night, as the host Jennies dealt the Bulldogs a 3-0 (-12, -12, -23) setback in Warrensburg. Freshman Megan Sharpe had a team-high six kills and hit .353 for the Bulldogs.

Truman (22-11, 10-7 MIAA) dropped its second straight road match to a ranked team and had just 27 kills in the match. The ’Dogs struggled offensively all night, hitting at a negative clip through the first two frames before connecting at a .227 mark in a more competitive third set.

The Bulldogs out-blocked UCM, 7-6, with Emily Briseno’s four (one solo, three assist) leading the way. Ashley Petak recorded her 35th career double-double with 13 assists and 15 digs, while Casey Bruno led all players defensively with 17 digs. Erin Hattey had five kills and hit .333 for Truman, and Lauren Graybeal chipped in five kills of her own.

Allie Huffman was the only player in the match with double-figure kills, with 10 for UCM (29-4, 15-2 MIAA).

Truman will return home for its final home match of the 2009 season on Saturday against No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha. The Bulldogs will recognize its three graduating seniors – Graybeal, Hattey and Krysta Tholen – prior to the 6 pm first serve.
