Freshman Kelsey Twellman scored the equalizer in the 80th minute against Missouri Western, but the Truman women’s soccer team couldn’t find the game-winner and settled for a 1-1 draw with the visiting Griffons on Tuesday afternoon.

Missouri Western got on the board first, scoring when Mary Ohm’s header bounced over the outstretched arms of Truman goalkeeper Alison Taylor and into the net in the 16th minute. Taylor, getting her first start of the season, wasn’t forced to make a save after the goal as MWSU took just three shots for the day with only one shot on goal.

Truman continued to maintain pressure and finally broke through when Twellman took a pass from Riley Mahn and blasted a shot past Griffon goalie Jenna Weis to tie the score at one with just more than ten minutes to play.

From there, however, neither team was able to score again in regulation or overtime, resulting in the draw. Truman (13-3-3, 12-2-1 MIAA) drew even with Nebraska-Omaha for the conference lead in points, but UNO has one additional match to play this week whereas Truman ends its regular season on Thursday at Emporia State.

Seniors Isabel Gaeta and Katie Reuck each took four shots for the Bulldogs, who also had an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks against the Griffons (8-9-2, 6-7-2 MIAA).
