(AP) -- There were 79 race teams in attendance, including the unlimited latemodels of the MLRA, when the light rain started about 7:30 pm last Saturday at 24 Raceway.  And it didn't take long for the track to get just a bit too greasy for the racecars to stay out.  A valient effort was made by most of the drivers to try to save the surface for racing by simply doing laps.  But the droplets just kept coming down and didn't give much of a choice but to cancel out the night's racing program, which was to have featured a second show of the Midwest LateModel Racing Association for this season in a 30-lap race.  Drivers and teams were present from at least five different states and ready to compete.  Several fans came from the KC area, from Iowa, and one fellow actually flew in for this show from Whitehall, Arkansas.  But all James L. Jones could take back home was the winning 50/50 ticket money.

PROMO:  No racing is scheduled for next Saturday, August 22nd, as this is the built-in Pit Stop No. 2 for the season.  This night off allows the area race teams to prepare and enter into the Thursday night racing program of Modifieds and Stock Cars, and also allows for our fans to attend that one and the Sunday race program of Sprints and LateModels over at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.  The next Moberly event coming up at 24 Raceway in two weeks on August 29th will be a fan appreciation of sorts.  Each person will need to bring a recent church bulletin to the main ticket booth at the southwest corner of the racetrack to receive $5 off the regular admission into the grandstand.  Since the admission will only be $10, the bulletin will get that adult person in for half price.  This will also be an Autism Awarness night with more details on this part next week.  After a week off, "Dirt Track Racing at its Best" happens again on August 29th at 24 Raceway, east of Moberly, Missouri on U.S. Highway 24.  Kids 12 and under are free to the grandstands and the stands will open at 4 pm to watch the Annual ssautosports.com race for the banner braggin' rights.  Pit passes will be $25.  Racing starts at 7 p.m. with hot laps at 6:15 following a short drivers' meeting.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Aug 22  - No Racing (planned summer pit stop # 2) and time off between the State Fair dirt track races on Thursday & Sunday
Aug 29  - Annual ssautosports.com race for photo to be included in website banner.  A most-recent CHURCH Bulletin will be good for $5 off admission to grandstands.
    Sept. 5 & 6 - Two-day 8th annual Speedbowl 2009
Sept. 5  - Red Cross Blood Drive earlier in the afternoon at the grandstand area.
Sept. 12 - Annual B-Modified Championship Shootout, sponsored by MHC Kenworth of Columbia.

The five classes that have competed each Saturday night of the 2009 season will race one more time, with five special ten-lap races following the night's regular features.  The winner of each of these additional ten-lap races for all of the five weekly classes of A-modifieds, Moberly Motors B-mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stock and 4 cylinder Hornets will get their car's picture posted for the 2010 season on the website banner for www.24racewayinmoberly.com.  Those already qualified for this All-star race are those teams finishing in the top 5 in season points, along with any drivers having won a feature during the 2009 season.  In addition, the driver winning the feature  on the next Saturday, along with the heat winners, will automatically qualify.

The top five teams in the 2009 points from the all five classes of A-mods, B-mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks & 4 clyinder Hornets are listed below, but the complete list is available on the website of www.24racewayinmoberly.com by hitting the points button at the top of the home page.  Recent results from the 2009 season races can be viewed in the same fashion on that website and both are a direct link with a connection to www.speednetdirect.com.  A complete and current 2009 season schedule is also available there in the same fashion.  Action photos from 24 Raceway can be viewed at www.photogliff.com with ordering available off that website, for professional shots of both driver and racecar, and that too, is only a click away on that same home page.
