HANNIBAL, MO -- With more than a dozen roads closed due to flooding in the Missouri Departement of Transportation's Northeast District, drivers will need to consult the www.modot.org traveler information map before traveling Monday morning.

"The warmer temperatures have melted the several inches of snow we still had on the ground, plus we've received significant rainfall in the last 24 hours," said MoDOT Maintenance and Traffic Engineer Jennifer Hinson. "Our streams and rivers are swollen, and with the ground saturated, the water is going over some of our lower roads," she explained. While some of the roads will remain closed for several hours, water levels change quickly, so MoDOT crews are monitoring these areas.

"The traveler information map on our website has the most updated information and will change frequently over the next few days," Hinson said.

MoDOT reminds drivers to never travel through a flooded road. "Don't drown...turn around. Barricades have been placed where roads are closed, and we appreciate the public finding alternate routes during this time," Hinson said.
