SCHUYLER COUNTY, MO. --
One Heartland community is coming together to help cancer patients with whatever they need.
Last year, the Schuyler County Cancer Fund, raised $8,000 and was able to give each person $500.
The treasurer of the fund said a lot of people have been gracious to the fund.
“The best part is when you get to go and present the check to them,” Marcia Martin said. “The first gentleman I (gave a check to) got a little teary eyed, and he goes, “I had talked to my wife about no longer taking these trips because it was too much gas money.” And, then we drop $500 in their pocket, and you know, it was like they were so touched; so that is a wonderful feeling.”
Saturday night the organization will be having a bingo tournament to raise money for the fund.
It will be at the Schuyler County Nutrition Site in Lancaster from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
It cost $10 a card, and there will be a prize every game.
If you would like to donate and can't make it to bingo, you can reach Martin at the Schuyler County Nursing Home.
