EDDYVILLE, IOWA -- In Eddyville, you won’t just be seeing cars on the city streets anymore.

The Eddyville City Council unanimously passed a city ordinance this week that now allows golf carts to legally be driven on the city streets.

The mayor said the city had a lot of requests for it and he always wants to make the people of Eddyville happy.

There are some rules that have to be followed about when you can drive the golf carts.

“Sunrise to sunset because they don't require lights on them now, only a tall flag and a slow-moving sign on the back. They got to have insurance and they must be 18 years-old with a driver’s license. So the young kids with the drivers’ licenses are not eligible until they get to be 18,” said Mayor John Johnston.

The speed of the golf carts must not exceed 25 mph, as well.

There are a few city streets that may not be used by golf carts to ensure safety.

Mayor Johnston said the council may be discussing in the future whether to allow four wheelers in addition to golf carts on the streets.
