OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It may seem like the election only just finished, but voters in Wapello County and the surrounding area have another opportunity to cast their ballots.
A special election for Indian Hills Community College will be held on Tuesday, December 4. Eligible voters in Wapello County and/or in the Ottumwa, Cardinal or Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont school districts are able to vote.
Only one measure is on the ballot, Public Measure J, which will determine whether or not a current tax will be extended.
"It looks like it's just a continuation of a tax that they already have in place," said Wapello County Auditor Kelly Spurgeon. "Looks like its not to exceed over ten years and not to exceed six cents per $1,000 of assessed value."
The tax helps fund program and equipment sharing between the ten counties associated with Indian Hills.
Absentee ballots can be cast through Monday, December 3 and polling hours on the fourth are noon until 8 p.m.
Polling places include: the Wapello County Courthouse in Ottumwa, the Agency Community Center in Agency and the Eddyville Public Library.
