FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- At the end of this year, Jefferson County Sheriff Jerry Droz will officially leave office; his chief deputy, Greg Morton is running for Sheriff Droz's seat unopposed.
As we get close to the general election, KTVO will continue to talk to the candidates running for sheriff throughout southeast Iowa; and if elected, where they would like to take their respective departments.
Morton says that he has been able to work under Sheriff Droz for many years, which has allowed him to learn a lot and that is one thing that will help him if he is elected in November.
"There are certain things that as the sheriff, you know, he has to make some tough calls, and not everyone agrees with those tough calls; but you still have to make them. I really don't see how him and I have a difference of opinion on how to run the office itself, like I said, he's been very gracious on allowing me to assist him on figuring where this office is going in the future, so I don't see a whole lot of big changes coming up," said Morton.
Sheriff Droz has had to deal with several budget cuts throughout his term in office and that is one big concern Morton will have to deal with if he is voted in.
