MILAN, MO -- One northeast Missouri community is celebrating diversity.
The Milan Chamber of Commerce is holding a Multi-Cultural Festival this Saturday, September 29, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on the Milan Square.
There will be about 50 to 60 booths representing countriesĀ in Latin America and Africa. There will be lots of food, music, and fun for people of all ages to enjoy.
This helps showcase the different cultures represented in Milan and beyond.
"I think people will get a better appreciation for diversity, not just in the Milan community, but throughout the country and the world. We are becoming more of a diverse United States. This is an excellent opportunity in a fun environment to get a better appreciation for different cultures," said Milan City Administrator Jim Onello.
This festival also celebrates Milan's status as the most diverse community in the Show-Me-State with 43-percent of the population being from different backgrounds.
"When we did some digging and found out we were the largest community, we needed to take the opportunity to celebrate that diversity because we are here together. It gives everyone to get along and just have a better appreciation," Onello said.
