KIKRKSVILLE, MO -- A local grocery store gets a big bologna award.
Tuesday, The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri presented the Kirksville Hy-Vee store with a special award: a package of bologna made from cement.
It's the food bank's quirky way of saying "thank you" for the overwhelming donation of a little more than 6,000 pounds of bologna during a food drive earlier this month.
Hy-Vee officials say they're humbled by the recognition.
"I'm very excited because this was very successful. When you have a plan. You don't know how it is going to work out, but then I got excited over the next five days. That was great," said Kirksville Hy-Vee Store Director Jeff Suchomel.
The food bank and the Kirksville Hy-Vee store want to also thank all customers who helped make the three-ton donation of bologna possible.
They're hoping for a goal of 8,000 pounds, or four tons, next time around.
