KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Adair County commissioners met Tuesday morning to set the 2012 Tax Levy for the county. The tax rates are set to produce the revenue required from the 2012 property tax. Each tax rate is determined by dividing the amount of revenue required by the current assessed valuation. The result is multiplied by 100 so the tax rate will be expressed in cents per $100.00 valuation. For Adair County, the rate has been pretty consistent over the last few years.
“Since about 2009, it (tax levy) has been real consistent and personal property tax is what controls the levy. Personal property is up slightly but the asset value of real estate has maintained about the same,” Presiding Commissioner Stan Pickens said.
For general revenue, there will be no property taxes against general revenue because over the last several years there has not been a levy against general revenue. For the road and bridge, the tax rate will go up to .2752. That is an increase of $.0049.
