UNIONVILLE, MO. -- The Putnam County School district gives more details as to why it canceled its contract with the district's transportation supplier.

Superintendent Heath Halley told KTVO the district dropped K M Bus Company of Unionville as its provider of student transportation after it learned K M wasn't completing background checks on all of its bus drivers as required by the state of Missouri.

He says the bus company didn't do a background check on the driver accused of molesting a student on his bus.

Halley says the board took the action for the safety of the students in the district.

Ricky Parris, 52, of Pollock, the driver involved in the alleged incident is charged with one count of first-degree child molestation for the three alleged incidents involving a seven-year-old boy.

He’s since been released on bond.
