NEAR MELROSE, IA -- A motorcycle accident has taken the life of Tony Lee Atchison, 44, of Albia, Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened Saturday around  8 p.m., south of Melrose, at the intersection of Route S70 and 270th St..

The crash report indicates that Atchison was thrown off the motorcycle after driving off the right hand side of the road and losing control.

Troopers said Atchison was not wearing a helmet and they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Monroe County Ambulance, and Mercy Air Ambulance also assisted on scene.
