OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Police Department informed KTVO Saturday afternoon that they have made an arrest concerning a bank robbery that happened Saturday morning at the South Ottumwa Savings Bank on Church Street.
According to Lt. Tom McAndrew of the Ottumwa Police Department, the department received a report of a robbery at the branch, located at 320 Church Street, just after 9:00 Saturday morning. Officers were told by bank officials that the suspect had fled on foot.
About an hour later, the suspect, Alex James Mabe, 37, was arrested at the Hy-Vee gas station on North Quincy Avenue in Ottumwa after officers were notified of a suspicious person on the premises.
Mabe has been charged with Robbery in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony. He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $10,000 bond.

On Saturday August 4, 2012, at 9:13am, the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a robbery at the South Ottumwa Savings Bank located at 320 Church Street in Ottumwa. Responding officers were advised the suspect had fled the bank on foot.
At 10:05 am, officers were notified of a suspicious person at the Hy-Vee gas station located on North Quincy Avenue in Ottumwa. Responding officers located a subject matching the description of the robber. As a result of the investigation, Officers arrested and charged Alex James Mabe, age 37, no address provided, with Robbery Second Degree (Class C Felony). Mabe is being held in the Wapello County Jail on $10,000 bond.
