OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It’s a hidden gem in Ottumwa, especially for those who appreciate convenience. Once you discover it, you’ll keep going back.

“Instead of getting dressed and ready and taking forever going to the grocery store, I can just go through here, grab it,” said one Stop & Go customer.

“It's awesome, just drive up and go. You don't have to get up or nothing,” said another Stop & Go customer.

No, these two customers aren’t talking about a fast food restaurant, but rather a convenience store. At the Stop & Go Drive-Thru convenience store, it’s not a problem if you have no shirt and no shoes.

Stop & Go managing partner Rodney Schwieger opened up the drive-thru around eight years ago and said they have served more than one million customers during that time.

“80 to 90 percent of our business is repeat business so most people that drive by it -- think -- don't know what the drive-thru is. They don't stop because they think its some place to get their oil changed. And we have had people who want to get their oil changed,” said Schwieger.

Even though it’s not your typical convenience store, Stop & Go carries everything a convenience store would typically carry from groceries to toilet paper.

Schwieger said the drive-thru sees about 300 cars drive through daily.

“We have a lot of happy customers. Everyone seems to be in a really good mood when they get to shop at the drive-thru. And what we hear the most is just how easy and convenient it is,” said Schwieger.

Schwieger knows most of his customers by name and even knows some of his regulars’ orders.

“Getting to see our customers everyday -- satisfied customers everyday -- it really makes you feel good to know maybe you’re helping them make their day easier,” said Schwieger.

The Stop & Go is located at 516 S. Madison St. and opens at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. The store closes at 10 p.m. everyday.
