KIRKSVILLE, MO -- People throughout northeast Missouri had special visitors Saturday and it was all for a good cause.

The Black Diamond District of The Boy Scouts of America took part in the annual "Scouting For Food" event.

The boys stopped by front porches to collect bags of non-perishable food items.

KTVO spoke to a few Boy Scouts and they told us they want to help make a difference in their communities. "It's fun because we are helping needy people who need people," said Ayden Newman, a Boy Scout.

"Despite the cold weather, the kids are out and having a good time. They are doing service to their community. I think they understand that they are helping somebody," said Scott Meredith, District Executive of the Black Diamond District of Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts collected about 4,000 pounds of food across the area. The food was donated to local food pantries across northeast Missouri in Adair, Sullivan, Putnam, Linn, Knox, Shelby, Macon, Schuyler and Scotland Counties.
