OTTUMWA, IA -- On Saturday Feb. 4, a Legislative Forum will be held at the Bridgeview Center at 9:30 a.m. in the “Studio” room. It is being co-sponsored by Ottumwa’s League of Women Voters and the Greater Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce.
"The format of the forum will be different this year as to ensure the equality of attendees getting a fair chance to ask their question," says President of Ottumwa's League of Women Voters Sarah Sels.
Every person will receive a number when as they walk in. Whoever has the number “1” will be able to ask a question to whichever legislature. Whoever has number “2” will be called upon to ask the next question and so on.
With more than 50 people expected to attend, not all numbers will be called upon. It is important that if you want to ask a question to be on time or early to be sure to receive a low number.
Everyone is encouraged to attend. This will give constituents the chance to bring up any issues or ask any questions they may have to their area legislatures.
The League requests of those in attendance to make any donations which will go towards making new yard signs. However, it not mandatory.
"I've had people come up to me saying that they remembered to vote because they saw a 'Vote on Tuesday' sign," says Sels.
This Legislative Forum is the first of three that will be held. The next ones will be the first Saturdays in March and April.
