CHILLICOTHE, MISSOURI -- A high speed chase spread over two counties, by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, lands a Kirksville man behind bars.

William Brown Junior, 27, is facing felony charges of tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest by fleeing, along with misdemeanor traffic offenses.

According to court papers, Brookfield Police had received a report of a vehicle driving recklessly on Highway 36 in Linn County. The vehicle was spotted by a state patrol trooper on Highway 36 near the Chillicothe city limits in Livingston County.

The trooper then pursued the vehicle on Highway 36 for nearly 15 miles, reaching speeds near 95 miles per hour. The vehicle was finally stopped on 36 in Caldwell County when it ran out of gas.

When the troopers approached the vehicle the suspect refused to open the door or roll down the window. The troopers then broke out windows on each side to enter the vehicle. The suspect had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle by troopers. At the time of the arrest, there was also a female passenger in the pickup with Brown.

Brown was taken into custody. He was arraigned on the charges Wednesday in Livingston County Associate Court. He continues to be held in the Livingston County Jail under $50,000 cash only bond.

The patrol says the pickup truck Brown was driving was reported stolen from the parking lot at Woody’s in Kirksville earlier in the evening. The patrol also says Brown has previous arrests for tampering, burglary, rape and assault.
