KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Some Northeast Missouri residents are recognized as heroes.

On November 29th, Larry Roberts went into cardiac arrest while working at the Kraft Foods plant in Kirksville.Three of his co-workers...Joe Young, Mark Munn, and Dave Kinney did some quick thinking and stepped up. They used an AED defilbrillator that was on -site and performed CPR till first responders arrived...saving Roberts' life.

Today his three heros were recognized at a ceremony and presented with "A Heroes Heart" award.

Roberts said he will be forever grateful to the men who gave him a second chance at life.

"I'm just very grateful that these three people stepped up. I was out of it and they used the AED to bring me back." Roberts said. "Words can't express my feelings of gratitude to these guys."

Joe Young, one of the three men who saved Roberts said he doesn't consider himself a hero, he was just doing the right thing.

"I lost my dad to a heart attack so it was special to know that Larry made it and is still here. I can talk to him." Young said."It's cool and it's a great thing to have. I just hope this incident shows people how important it is to have this training and equipment."

NEMO Heart Health President Troy Mihalevich says this incident proves how important it is to have AED's available on-site.

"I mean this story validates what it is we are trying to do and trying to sell to the community." Mihalevich said. "It's one thing to say and tell people things. But it's another thing to have a testimonial and add reality to it and validates what we are trying to do."

NEMO Heart Health hopes to have 50 AED'S in public places across Kirksville in the next few years.
