OTTUMWA -- Christmas comes early for one Iowa man.
Mike Smith, 43, of Albia won the ‘Last Man Standing’ competition at Bridge City TV and Appliance around midnight on Wednesday. Smith and about 15 others had to be the last person touching part of a delivery truck. The contestants could not take their hand off the truck.
In order to participate you had to have proof of being unemployed.
Smith won appliances ranging from an HDTV, refrigerator, washer, dryer and more. After all his prizes were added up, Smith ended up walking away with $4,000-$5,000 worth of appliances.
Smith says the cold temperatures, rain and snow were the worst parts of the competition.
“Waiting it out, I really didn't have no problem with it," Smith said.
Smith started out the competition with only beef jerky, M&M’s and Mountain Dew. Contestants were not allowed to have outside help or other food brought to them aside from the food they started with.
Smith lasted nearly 88 hours since the competition began Saturday.
After eating junk food for more than three days, Smith’s first meal was two Big Macs, a large order of fries, a fish sandwich and a large Coke.
