Man admits assaulting toddler

KTVO spoke with Schuyler County Prosecutor Scott Summers Tuesday. He told us the toddler is doing very well and is currently in foster care.

A Northeast Missouri man is headed to prison following his guilty plea to an assault charge involving injuries to a toddler. 

Christopher Jackson, 21, of Downing, entered the guilty plea to an amended charge of first degree assault, with serious injury, a class A felony. Jackson entered the plea in a Scotland County courtroom, after receiving a change of venue from Schuyler County. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge Karl Demarce, probation was denied. 

According to court papers, the victim, who was two years old at the time, had received serious head injuries in the incident, along with a lacerated liver, a broken leg, along with numerous bites, bruises and abrasions over the body. 

The other person charged in the case, 21-year-old Amber White, 21, also of Downing, is set for trial in her case beginning January 26, 2012. She is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
