CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (AP) -- Construction crews are making rapid progress on renovating and expanding the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids.
Officials said they plan to reopen the museum July 14, more than four years after flooding inundated the building. The building is now 11 feet higher than at its previous location - 3 feet above the 2008 flood level.
When the $16.5 million project is finished, the new museum will feature a 55-seat theater, a new Heritage Hall able to hold up to 400 people, a 5,500-square-foot library and a 7,200-square-foot permanent exhibition room.
