CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (AP) -- Cedar Rapids police have found another methamphetamine lab in a backpack, raising questions about whether it's a new trend in clandestine ways to make the illegal drug.
The Gazette reports the backpack was found the week of Oct. 31 behind a washing machine in a laundry room at an apartment building. Management found the backpack and called police. Before this incident, on Oct. 26, Cedar Rapids police arrested a man who was allegedly carrying a meth lab in a backpack on a city street.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said police have discovered several mobile meth labs in vehicles in recent years but this is the first time they've found the labs transported in backpacks. Hamblin said in both instances it was the "one-pot method" where the chemicals are combined in a single container to brew the drug.
