SCHUYLER COUNTY, MISSOURI -- Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has appointed Tammy Steele, of Lancaster, as the new collector for Schuyler County. That announcement came Monday morning.

Steele, a Democrat, has served as the deputy collector for the county since 2001. She is a longtime Schuyler County resident and obtained a two-year certificate in accounting and data processing from Truman State University.

“Tammy Steele knows this office through her decade of experience in the collector’s office, and I am confident she will ably serve the citizens of Schuyler County as their collector,” Gov. Nixon said.

The collector position became vacant upon the resignation of Kathy Roberts in August of this year.
Roberts is accused of embezzling more than $500,000 in county tax money while in office.
