OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Nearly half of the Ottumwa voters who went to the polls Tuesday decided to give Mayor Dale Uehling one more chance to remain in office.

Uehling was one of the top two vote-getters in the three-way primary to decide who would be eligible to run in November's General Election.

Uehling received 740 votes, just over 48-percent of the votes cast.

The second candidate who moves on to the General Election is Frank Flanders.

He received 511 votes.

The loser of the race was Robert LaPoint with 276 votes.

The new mayor of Ottumwa will be selected after head-to-head contest between Uehling and Flanders on November 8.

Uehling has been mayor of Ottumwa since 1994, except during a two-year period from 2002-2004 after he lost a General Election to Van Gates.
