BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- One Davis County Coach is proving age is just a number.

Linda Rowe taught and coached at Davis County High School for 35 years and is still the schools assistant cross country coach. Rowe recently won several medals and awards at the Iowa Senior Olympics. Most of her awards were in track and field events.

She has been involved with athletics all her life, dating back to when she was a three sport star in high school. During her tenure, Rowe has coached several girls sports in Bloomfield including basketball, softball and track.

And if that is not enough, she has also traveled the world for missionary work. She has gone to many countries such as Bolivia, Haiti, and various countries in Africa.

Rowe said the awards are only material objects but have sentimental meaning.

"The medals and trophies are just stuff. But they represent a lot of memories. A lot of fun times, good times with students, friends that are my age now. Its been a way to see a lot of the country."

Rowe hopes to be an inspiration for other elders. She wants all seniors to be active.

"Being a P.E. Teacher, I always thought exercise was good. I think its good for any age; whether they just sit in a chair and move some dumbbells or cans of soup. Or if they can walk, I think that’s the best exercise for older people is to get out and walk."

Rowe plans to keep participating in future Senior Olympics not only in Iowa, but also other states. She also plans on more missionary trips overseas.
