OTTUMWA -- Main Street Ottumwa prepares for the 4th annual Walk on Art Street this weekend.

The event is held on Third Street and runs all day Saturday.  The number of artists involved in this year’s event will be 68.  More than 1,000 people attended last year’s festival.  Cindy Woodbury, executive director for Main Street Ottumwa, says there will be plenty to do even for non-art lovers.

“There will be entertainment,” said Woodbury.  “There will be children’s activities.  We have non-profit organizations that will be selling their different things to help raise a little bit of funds for them.”

Food vendors from local businesses will also be stationed in between Washington and Market streets.

Every year the event showcases a featured artist.  This year’s artist is Tom Sharron of Michigan.  Sharron uses recycled silverware as part of his projects but the finished product is quite the sight.  An eagle he created has a ten-foot wingspan made of forks and knives.

There’s no more room for artists in this year’s Walk on Art Street, however, if someone would like to participate next year they can present their work to Main Street Ottumwa for 2012.  For more information on this year’s event, click here.
