FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The Fairfield Community School District reassured parents Thursday that the district is in the process of replacing their driver’s education instructor.

Last week, it was reported that 62 year old Frederick Bindner of Mount Pleasant, Iowa was arrested after he was accused of giving wine to two of his students at an Olive Garden restaurant in Coralville, Iowa. The police report states that the students were ages 14 and 16.

At the time of the incident, Bindner, who operated the Auto Right Driving School, had a contract with the Fairfield Community School District to provide driver’s education courses to students. That contract was terminated when Bindner was arrested.

Fairfield Community School’s Superintendent Art Sathoff told KTVO Wednesday that the district is working on getting a new instructor for the program.

“Well, we are very close to having a new contract completed with a new provider, and it's a quality provider in the area. It should be very convenient. Tuition will be the same as what we had with our previous provider. The start date will be moved back a little bit from the August 29th start date we were anticipating, but we are going to be in very good shape,” said Superintendent Sathoff.

KTVO learned Wednesday afternoon through the Mt. Pleasant News that Bindner is no longer associated with the driving school.

As for criminal charges, Bindner faces two counts of providing alcohol to minors, which according to Iowa Courts Online is a serious misdemeanor. The Iowa Department of Education could also revoke his teaching license.

Bindner has a preliminary court appearance September 1st in Johnson County.
