ALBIA, IOWA -- Presidential hopefuls continue to campaign across Iowa before the critical straw poll in Ames on Saturday.
Businessman Herman Cain stopped in Albia Friday afternoon before heading off to Sigourney. Many consider Herman Cain an underdog as the GOP nominee for president of the United States. However, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza continues his tour of the Hawkeye state.
“Do you want another politician or would you rather have a problem-solver for a change?” asked Cain at his rally.
Mr. Cain focused on two issues at the event: the wars overseas and the economy at home.
“We need a specific strategy for each on of those involvements where we have our men and women in harms way."
The presidential candidate also spoke on the debt ceiling. Mr. Cain has said on many occasions he would not have supported raising the debt ceiling and would have let the country default on its debt.
“(Congress) just didn’t want to do the heavy lifting of making those tough decisions. We wouldn’t have been defaulted. If they had done that, even they would have had to make some deep cuts. I don’t believe the credit of the United States would have been downgraded.”
Herman Cain still trails Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann as the frontrunners for the presidential candidacy of the GOP. It’s events like this in Albia that Mr. Cain hopes carries momentum into Saturday’s straw poll.
Many people KTVO spoke to were impressed with Cain’s speech and where he stands on positions
"I just wanted to come out and see him,” said Oskaloosa native Denise Holthaus. “I really haven't decided and I think it's important to listen to the candidates what they have to say before you make up your mind."
“He offers something we haven’t had in the White House since Clinton and Reagan,” said Albia native Brian Morgan. “That’s a dynamic leader.”
